RECOMMENDED DAY TRIPS
Glencoe to Bridge of Orchy - Stunning mountain scenery with the unique mood of Glencoe. Beyond Glencoe pass the often photographed Buachaille Etive Mòr. Rannoch Moor, at over 1000ft, is wonderfully bleak and inhospitable.
Strontian / Ardnamurchan Peninsula - Discover the unspoilt ‘wilderness’ of the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. From Corran Ferry travel via Strontian, Salen, Glenborrodale and Ardnamurchan Natural History Centre before reaching Ardnamurchan Point. The Small Isles and the Cullins of Skye can be seen in the distance. A ‘jewel in the crown’ is nearby Sanna Bay with its pristine sands.
Road to the Isles to Morar Sands - Via beautiful Glenfinnan where Bonnie Prince Charlie landed in 1745. (The viaduct opposite features in a Harry Potter film.) Arisaig, has a charming bay and at Morar you can absorb the tranquillity of the silver sands joining the sea.
Isle of Mull to Iona - Crossing by ferry from Lochaline to Craignure, see the famous coloured houses at Tobermory . Tour the island for its outstanding wildlife, stunning cliffs and bays. You can visit Iona (via ferry) an important religious site.
Isle of Skye - Can be reached via scenic Glen Shiel or by ferry from Mallaig. Sense the prehistoric tone of the Cuillins with its jagged peaks and ancient landscapes. See its contrasting scenes of rock, meadows and sandy bays. You have a good chance of spotting eagles.
Outdoor Sports/ Climbing/Skiing/ Winter Sports: (We have a boiler room for drying outdoor clothing/boots etc.)
Mountain biking: Aonach Mor, at Fort William, has a World Downhill Mountain Biking Course. Somewhat ‘less hazardous’ there are many other biking trails and forest roads. (We have space to store bikes).
Water sports: From fishing to yachting, kayaking to pedaloes, take to the water to view the area from a different perspective. Local facilities are 5 minutes from Highland View.
Walking / Munro Bagging: Many would argue that this part of the Highlands holds an almost endless number of possible walking paths, trails and peaks to ‘bag’. There are far too many to list – but all levels of ability can be catered for. There are 8 Muroes in Glencoe to bag, with more in the Nevis Range nearby which includes Ben Nevis. The Highland Way passes a few miles behind us on the Kinlochleven to Fort William leg.
Film/T.V locations: Rob Roy, Braveheart, Highlander, Harry Potter, Skyfall and many other blockbuster movies have been filmed in this area.
Wildlife: Deer can be seen regularly throughout the area. Owls can often be heard at the back of Highland View. Red squirrels and pine martens frequent occasionally whilst seals and otters can be spotted in Loch Linnhe opposite. Buzzards and the occasional eagle can be seen overhead. There is a wide abundance of wildlife in the Highlands, even if some of the occupants can be elusive.
